Gov. Laura Kelly’s budget unveiled Wednesday fully funds the school finance plan under the Gannon settlement.
“Even as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, my budget is fiscally sound, it maintains investments in core services like education, infrastructure and economic development,” Kelly said.

Meanwhile, legislators worked on emergency management legislation related to the COVID-19 pandemic and tax measures. In addition, the Senate Education Committee received the Legislative Post Audit report on school district cash balances. The audit found wide variances in districts’ balances, but nothing inappropriate, noting that the balances were attributed to risks perceived by individual districts.
