The Kansas State Board of Education consists of 10 elected members, each representing a district comprised of four contiguous senatorial districts. The State Board reorganizes every other year to elect a chair and vice chair and appoints a Commissioner of Education who serves as its executive director.
The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents is the governing board of the state’s six universities and the statewide coordinating board for the state’s 32 public higher education institutions (six state universities, one municipal university, nineteen community colleges, and six technical colleges).
