The Kansans Can vision for student success focuses on multiple areas that prepare students to be successful adults, including kindergarten readiness, fundamental academic skills, health and safety, civic education and community engagement, preparing for personalized postsecondary success and meeting economic needs.

KASB has posted  a report on major developments for October, 2022, in these areas, along with the Kansas Can outcomes and measures used for school district accreditation. Here are the highlights:

 – Shawnee Mission Foundation joins Dolly Parton Imagination Library to promote early literacy.

 – Report examines issues for Kansas child care providers.

 – A new report shows decline in Kansas and national reading and math tests.

 – Reading declines on state assessments but math improved slightly after last year’s drop.

 – Kansas ACT results level after years of decline, but participation lower.

 – Schools observe Anti-Bullying Awareness Week; KSDE provides resources.

 – Kansas Purple Star School Designation approved to recognize support of military families.

 – Requests for school safety grants exceed grant funds.

 – “Students Serve” promotes students as election poll workers.

 – State Board continues discussion of revised graduation requirements.

 – Kansas five-year average postsecondary effective rate reaches new high.

 – Collaboration between state, industry and schools produces results.
