Our Vision

Create a culture of collaboration and service

Be a voice for public education

Develop board leaders for student success

We Believe

  • In positively impacting public education by providing support, direction, services and leadership to local boards and education leaders.
  • Leadership impacts student success.
  • Each board must serve with integrity, trust, honesty and transparency.
  • Each board must advocate for public education to create a robust system that benefits each Kansas student.
  • Boards are in the best position to maintain local control, develop and operate schools to effectively meet the needs of their students, families and communities.
  • Boards have a responsibility to identify and remove barriers to student learning and ensure that resources and policies support student needs.

Our Work

  • We seek to improve educational outcomes in Kansas school districts, building on the state’s long history of strong public schools.
  • We partner with school board members and school districts to lead, serve and advocate for student success.
  • We offer a complete range of services and expertise to meet the unique challenges in every Kansas district.
  • We support a culture of collaboration and service.

We put our members’ needs and interests first, providing direct support to board members, superintendents, board clerks and other district staff that help educate over 500,000 Kansas students every year.

  • Our membership includes 285 Kansas school districts, as well as governing boards of Kansas community colleges, technical colleges and cooperatives, interlocals, and regional service centers.
  • Vendors, exhibitors and other service providers may show their support for Kansas public education by partnering with KASB.
  • The Association is governed by our members. KASB’s governing board is made up of local school board members, as elected by other KASB school board members in their region.

Learn More About KASB

  • We have put the needs of school districts first since 1917, and we are proud of our mission to provide board members and school district leaders with the support, expertise, and resources they need to help every Kansas student succeed in school and in life.

  •  We champion the role of parents and the community in their school district and are committed to the work to make school a safe and caring place for every student.

  • We offer our members expert perspective, valuable experience, and a trustworthy belief in the work of public schools. In good times and challenging times, our legal, leadership and communication teams stand ready to support our members.

  • We unite people and focus on the issues that matter most to school districts. And we take pride in building common ground and advancing the needs of Kansas public schools and the students they serve.

  • Our 18-member governing board is made up of seated school board members from districts in every region of Kansas. Our budget is funded through a combination of membership dues, partnerships, and fee-based services that members may select.

  • Each year, our legislative priorities are updated and approved by Kansas school board members from across the state who gather and vote at Delegate Assembly.

  • As our team works in school districts every day across the state, we promote legal, ethical, and transparent decision-making.
