Special Committee on Education set to meet Nov. 30-Dec. 1

A tentative agenda has been set for Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 for the Special Committee on Education. Here is a link to the agenda.

The committee was requested by state Rep. Kristey Williams R-Augusta, who chairs the House K-12 Education Budget Committee.

In making the request, Williams focused on wanting information on academic achievement, school funding increases, the constitutional roles of the Legislature, State Board of Education and local school boards and several other issues.

The meeting agenda delves into other topics as well, including this question: “Is the application of Critical Race Theory finding its way into the classroom?”

Williams has raised questions about whether CRT and other forms of teaching history are causing young students to feel depressed.

KASB Associate Executive Director Mark Tallman is scheduled to speak to the committee on understanding the student needs assessment and its impact on student achievement and on improving parent partnerships.
