KASB provides details of committee-approved school funding, parents' rights, open enrollment bills

KASB is providing details on school funding, parents’ rights and open enrollment bills that were all recommended for approval Tuesday (March 15) by Republicans on the House K-12 Education Budget Committee.

Under HB 2662, districts would require extensive posting of materials and information on school district websites. The bill provides a list of parental rights, review of library materials, and would affect teacher evaluations and student surveys. Here is a link to the bill’s details.

The committee also approved HB 2615, which would require districts to determine how many non-resident students they must accept. Here is a link to the details of the bill.

In addition, House K-12 approved HB 2512, which contains appropriations for education funding, in addition to several policy proposals, including a requirement for districts to use the Math Nation online math resource. Here is a link to the details of the bill.

KASB encourages school leaders to become familiar with these bills and contact their legislators with any concerns they may have.
