The Benefits of Belonging

As a member of KASB, board members and district staff can access a wide array of services and support. We are here to help! KASB assesses dues from its members and in return provides the services outlined on this page. In addition, KASB members can access specialized services for a fee, and participate in association-sponsored services for legal and insurance.

The KASB advocacy staff works with the Kansas Legislature, Kansas State Department of Education, Kansas congressional delegation and others on matters of concern. For additional information, see Advocacy and Governmental Relations.

A comprehensive research and analysis department provides data collection on virtually every aspect of school district operations. The data is available to all members at no charge. For additional information, see Research.

Many board members and administrators find the routine consultation with KASB staff members one of the most important services provided by the association. Members are encouraged to contact staff via phone or email. The KASB staff includes professionals with extensive backgrounds in - to name a few - school administration, policy development, communications/public relations/marketing, leadership development…virtually every phase of school district operation! The KASB toll free number is 800.432.2471, and a staff listing is available here.

Publications include the "School Board Review," "Clerk News," "Capital Update," "Research Bulletin" and periodic "Issues Alert." General association news is shared through email alerts. The KASB website provides members with general information, forms, copies of testimony and other relevant information. A wide variety of specialized publications are also available. See Publications for a complete listing of available publications. Most publications are distributed electronically, and mailed to those who request it. Members can subscribe to the association's e-publications via the website.

Each member board has one vote in the delegate assembly. This body meets at least once a year at the KASB Delegate Assembly to decide official KASB policies on legislative matters and to elect the president-elect.

The KASB website continues to expand capacity with a goal of increasing and improving service to members. All seminars and workshops are listed on the master calendar, and members can register online. Publications and research information of general interest to all members posted on the website. The newest feature of the website is a 'member's only' section called MyKASB. This new feature will allow KASB to share proprietary information with members behind a password protected section. Members may submit vacancies as well as a classifieds section to list items for sale or needed.
