Kansas Open Records Act Handbook (2007 Edition)
The Kansas Association of School Boards’ Kansas Open Meetings Act Handbook and companion volume, Kansas Open Records Handbook, are designed to assist school districts in meeting their statutory obligations under the Kansas sunshine laws, the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA), and the Kansas Open Meetings Act, (KOMA). Under the Kansas sunshine laws, the public’s right to know is carefully balanced against the privacy rights of individuals and overriding public interest in keeping information confidential. These handbooks cover all aspects of open meetings from what constitutes a meeting to voting procedures and also provides boards of education and administrative staff with the legal information necessary to determine what records are to be made available and to whom. The handbooks will help school personnel understand the definition of a meeting or a record, how the law is enforced and what the remedies are for violations. A copy of the law and synopses of Attorney General Opinions interpreting its provisions are included in the appendices.

The School Law Handbook was written to provide board members, administrators and school attorneys with answers to frequently asked questions. This 13-chapter publication is written in question and answer format. Each chapter contains a detailed table of contents. School Law of Kansas Index
The School Laws of Kansas Index is a comprehensive subject index of Kansas education laws. It is an excellent resource for locating education related laws, particularly when you cannot recall the statute number. Student Discipline in the Public Schools (4th Edition)
Issues surrounding student discipline for misbehavior at school, on school property or at school activities have always been present in the public school system. The Student Discipline in the Public Schools handbook is designed to help school board members and school administrators understand the constitutional rights of students that may limit the authority of a school district to impose discipline for certain behaviors and special considerations when disciplining students with disabilities under IDEA or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
