The mission statement of the KASB Workers Compensation program is to support Kansas education by providing cost effective risk management services and insurance programs to members of the Kansas
Association of School Boards.
Historical Perspective
The liability insurance crisis in 1984 and 1985 prompted a number of members to call KASB and request help in finding coverage at a reasonable price. The KASB Board of
Directors formed a study committee in 1985 to look at the problem and propose a solution. That solution was to form group-funded pools for insurance. Because of the complexity of some forms of coverage, it was decided to begin with workers compensation. In 1989 the name was changed to the KASB Risk Management Services, Inc. to reflect a broader scope of services the board intended to provide members.
Over the years, various insurance programs have been offered and KASB is investigating the implementation of a Property and Casualty program. If such a program is started it will be necessary to create a seperate corporate structure thus prompting the 2002 decision to change the name back to the KASB Workers Compensation Fund, Inc.
