KASB Executive Director John Koepke recently announced the organization has formed an exclusive partnership with the Mid-Continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL). This partnership will enable KASB to offer leadership seminars for building administrators, using the McREL model of Balanced Leadership. The McREL model is a statistically proven methodology designed to provide building administrators with the necessary leadership skills to improve student learning. Although the initial seminars will deal with building level skills, it is important to note McREL is now working on the skills associated with district level leadership. When this is completed, it will allow KASB to continue to offer the building level seminars as well as move seamlessly into training related to district level skills.

The McREL/KASB balanced leadership training is a significant investment in time because of the depth and breadth of the subject matter.  Each participant will be involved in four two-day sessions throughout the next year. Forty individuals will be selected for this initial eight days of training. A second group of forty will be initiated after the first two seminars are completed by the original trainees.

Selection of participants will be by formal application. Individuals wishing to apply should do so online through the KASB Web site. Applications will be open to building administrators of member districts. To the degree possible, KASB will be seeking diversity regarding district size, geographic location, and AYP/QPA status. If all diversity concerns are met the final criteria for selection will be determined by date of application. Those not selected for the first group will be given consideration for selection into the second group.
